Certified Nurse Aide
The Certified Nurse Aide in Long-Term Care Facilities Program is a New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services approved training course. This program consists of a minimum of 90 hours of training, which equates to 50 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical experiences. Students will be exposed to four defined modules, which include:
Module I Core Curriculum for Nurse Aide Personnel in Long-Term Care Facilities
Module II Psycho-Social Needs of the Resident
Module III Physical Needs of the Resident
Module IV Spiritual, Recreational and Activity Needs of the Resident
The objective of this program is to provide students with basic nurse aide knowledge and skills needed to care for residents and prepare nurse aides to assume the responsibilities of a trained care-giver. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to take the Nurse Aide in Long-Term Care Competency Evaluation to gain New Jersey DHHS CNA certification.
Admission Requirements:

Patient Care Technician
Hybrid Course
Patient Care Technicians gain entry-level knowledge and clinical skills needed to work in a variety of employment settings like hospitals, surgical centers, and rehabilitation facilities. Employment for Patient Care Technicians is expected to grow 17 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the national average for all occupations. Upon successful program completion, students will be eligible for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification in Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A).
Course Content (200 hours)
- Provide basic patient care – bathing, feeding, catheter care, etc.
- Acquire, distribute and administer patient care supplies
- Perform safety checks and ensure cleanliness in patient rooms
- Obtain EKG readings and monitor vital signs
- Perform phlebotomy procedures
- Provide emotional supports to patients and families, particularly those coping with grief and death

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
Salem County Vocational Technical Schools has created an all-encompassing, allied health professional program that will provide students with valuable knowledge and national certifications for employment within the medical field. The Medical Assisting Program prepares students for clinical and laboratory procedures, administrative roles, human relations, and provides working knowledge in phlebotomy and EKG procedures. Students will gain a strong foundation in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, the healthcare profession, and safety procedures. Upon successful program completion, students will be eligible for the National Healthcareer Association’s (NHA) certifications in Certified Medical Assistant CCMA.

Phlebotomy
The Phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team whose main function is to obtain patient’s blood specimens by performing venipunctures and capillaries for collection of minute quantities of blood.
Course Components (45 hours)
- Introduction to Phlebotomy, Medical Terminology, Patient Preparation, Collection Techniques Processing, Safety and Compliance Considerations.

Course Description
This basic welding course will allow students to gain entry level knowledge of welding techniques and skills. Participants will learn safety regulations and basic, electrical current as it pertains to welding. The focus of this course will include welding theory and practical training in booths on steel, stainless and aluminum plates and pipes and expose participants to SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW. Students will learn safety and proper use of machines and tools, oxy fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, amperage, electrode sizing and numbering, basic weld joint design, and metal identification. Upon completion, students will receive a Career and Technical skills certificate and students are encouraged to join the American Welding Society (AWS).

Submerged Arc Welding
SCVTS offers a 30-hour welding course for Submerged Arc Welding (SAW). The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) funded the establishment of the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) program at SCVTS. This program prepares and trains workers to enter careers in heavy steel manufacturing.
(SAW) is particularly suitable for welding thick, flat, or horizontal metal sections, including pressure vessels, boilers, and heavy structural components. SAW offers high deposition rates, minimal fumes, and consistent weld quality.
Introduction to Automotive Technology
SCVTS offers an Introduction to Automotive Technology course that is designed to give each student exposure to the Automotive field. Students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of hands-on activities and coursework to include topics for safety, brakes, tires, oil and filter changes, wheel alignment and more. Classes also emphasize diagnostic methods. The students prepare for a variety of career choices in the automotive field. Students who complete the program sit for the ASE (Introduction to Automotive Service Excellence) certificate exam.
Basic Life Support (CPR)
In-Person Course
The American Heart Association’s CPR & ECC is inspiring the world to save lives. We are the leader in resuscitation science, education, and training, and publisher of the official Guidelines for CPR and ECC. Millions of healthcare providers and others trust the AHA for their lifesaving training.
The BLS for Healthcare Providers course teaches CPR skills to help victims of all ages, (including ventilation with a barrier device, a pocket mask and a bag-valve mask); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of a foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). The class is intended for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or noncertified, licensed or non licensed healthcare professionals. However, anyone who wants to learn CPR/AED skills is permitted to take this class.

Salem County Vocational Technical School is now enrolling for the 2025 NJ Real Estate License classes! We are approved by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission to offer ONLINE pre-license salesperson classes.

Homemaker-Home Health Aide

Course for Currently Certified CNA’s
Homemaker-home health aides are certified by the New Jersey Board of Nursing (“Board”) after successfully completing a required 76-hour training program, a competency evaluation and a criminal history background check. The training program shall consist of at least 76 hours, to include 60 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours of clinical instruction in a skills laboratory or patient-care setting.
If you are already a New Jersey Certified Nurse Aide, you are eligible to take the home-care module which consists of 10 hours of training.
Production Technician
In collaboration with Salem Community College, Mid-Atlantic States Career & Education Center and Salem County Board of Social Services.
Production Technician Responsibilities:
- Localize malfunctions, identify causes and sources of malfunctions, correct malfunctions where possible, and/or document malfunctions to be passed on to the appropriate experts for resolution or (where appropriate) to exchange or replace defective components.
- Recognize potential or impending malfunctions and contact expert assistance in order to keep the production line functioning and to prevent production loss.
- Perform routine, preventive maintenance
- Understand and explain the principal operations of the mechatronic subsystems in a complex system.
- Understand and explain how these subsystems work together.
- Read and understand the technical documents, reports and outlines specific to the system and subsystems, and be able to consult with experts.
- Work effectively as a team member and to coordinate their activities with upstream and downstream operations.
- Understand and implement safety regulations required for operation of the system.
Siemens Level 1
Course Description:
A Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant (PT-SL1) will function as a well-grounded machine operator in a complex system, with responsibility for efficient operation of the equipment with minimal downtimes. At this level their work is carried out at plant assembly sites, workshops or in connection with service operations which utilize complex mechatronic systems.
Siemens Level 2
Course Description:
A Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems Assistant (PT-SL2) will function as a highly skilled technician who can work with modules and components in complex mechatronic systems as well as being able to assess and analyze the system as a whole. A Certified Associate can manage, investigate, repair and troubleshoot mechatronic systems, with the aim or operational efficiency and cost and process control. They will usually carry out their work at production facilities, workshops or in services sites that use complex mechatronic systems.
ESL/Civics
This multi-level hybrid ESL course is designed to accommodate learners of all levels. Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Friday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This course offers a dynamic blend of in-person and online instruction, providing a flexible learning environment. You’ll engage in comprehensive training that covers essential language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The interactive approach ensures students gain the practical English skills needed for everyday communication, workplace success, and further education.
Additionally, eligible students who have met the English proficiency requirements can enroll in the Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs. These programs offer the opportunity to learn a trade such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Forklift Operation, and more, giving students the skills necessary to advance careers while continuing to improve English. Whether just starting or looking to refine language abilities, this course will support those goals.

Automotive Collision & Repair
This practical, hands‑on course introduces students to the fundamentals of automotive collision repair and refinishing. Topics include shop safety, damage assessment, metalworking and panel replacement, welding basics for body repair, plastic repair, fillers and sanding, surface preparation, priming and painting techniques, finishing, alignment of body panels, and an introduction to estimating and insurance procedures. Emphasis is placed on real-world repair workflow, proper tool use, and industry safety standards.

Basic Construction Skills
The Introduction to Basic Construction Skills course is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the core concepts, tools, and techniques used across the construction industry. This hands-on, entry-level program prepares individuals for further study, apprenticeship programs, or entry-level positions in a variety of building trades.
Through a blend of classroom instruction and shop-based training, students will learn:
- Construction Industry Fundamentals: Understanding the structure of the construction field, job roles, and industry expectations.
- Safety and OSHA Awareness: Emphasis on personal protective equipment (PPE), safe use of tools and equipment, hazard recognition, and site safety procedures.
- Tools, Materials, and Measurement: Proper selection, handling, and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and basic construction materials.
- Basic Carpentry and Framing Skills: Introduction to cutting, measuring, and assembling basic wood framing projects.
- Blueprint Reading & Layout Skills: Learning how to interpret construction drawings and translate them into practical building layouts.
- Fasteners and Hardware: Overview of common fasteners, anchors, and adhesives used in construction projects.
- Teamwork and Jobsite Communication: Developing workplace professionalism, communication skills, and problem-solving in a construction environment.
By the end of the program, students will have the knowledge and confidence to pursue apprenticeships, specialized trade training, or entry-level employment within the construction field.
Basic Electrical Skills
The Introduction to Electrical Skills course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in the principles, safety practices, and hands-on techniques essential for work in the electrical trades. This course is ideal for individuals seeking to enter the field of electrical work, enhance existing technical skills, or gain a deeper understanding of residential and light commercial electrical systems.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and practical, shop-based exercises, students will learn:
- Electrical Theory & Fundamentals: Understanding basic electrical concepts including current, voltage, resistance, and power.
- Tools, Equipment, and Materials: Proper selection, care, and safe use of industry-standard tools, meters, and wiring materials.
- Safety Practices & Codes: Emphasis on OSHA safety standards, personal protective equipment, and an introduction to the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Circuit Design and Installation: Hands-on practice with wiring circuits, installing outlets, switches, fixtures, and panels.
- Blueprint Reading & Troubleshooting: Learning to interpret wiring diagrams, identify system issues, and apply logical problem-solving techniques.
- Career Awareness: Overview of pathways in the electrical trade, apprenticeship opportunities, and continued education for licensure and certification.
